I know, I haven’t been on for a month and working on my blog.
Between my back, doctor visits, physical therapy, and general health – I just
haven’t been up to crafting. I did finish quilting my new grandson’s quilt and
crocheted an afghan and will be sharing that with you within the next few days.
This month, I have been busy though and created a lay-out and 3 cards!!! It
felt good to be crafting again and I hope you enjoy my projects along with my
little stories . . . .
My first card is for September 1 Emma M. Nutt Day, the first woman telephone operator. Why I chose this occasion is my very first job was for a telephone operator for a Cemetery . . . . it was an old-fashioned trunk line phone which reminds you of Lily Tomlin on Laugh-in (ok, did I show my age??).
Recipe:
- card was cut 6 x 8.5 inches and folded in half using ivory Recollection cardstock and chalked around edges
- phones were cut using Cricut Heritage Cartridge
- background picture from Free Vintage Digital Stamps
- eyelet border cut using Martha Stewart Eyelet punch
- pearls and charm from Miriam's Crafting Supplies
- sentiment, "How have you been? inquiring minds want to know" from Create with TLC
Now, September 3rd was Janet Smith's birthday - shhhh don't tell her about her card as I don't know if she has received it in the mail yet . . . .
One thing I've always wanted to do was the projects that are shown in the front of the Cricut booklets . . . well, here is my first project doing just that in front of Cricut Art Nouveau Cartridge..
Recipe:
- card cut 6 x 12 using DCWV Blossom Song cardstock and folded in half
- Recollections Black and White Paper was cut 4.5 x 5.5 and another piece cut 4.125 x 5.675
- white Recollections cut at 4 x 4.375 with another piece cut 4.657 x 5.657
- pink Recollection cut 4.5 x 4.75
- butterfly cut at 3.5 using Cricut Art Nouveau Cartridge using grey, pink, black and 2 shades of pink Recollections
- pearls from Miriam's Crafting Supplies
- ribbons from my stash
- sentiment, "Happy Birthday", from Create with TLC
I decided to combine Teddy Bear Day, September 9th, and National Play Doh Day, September 16th with not only Teddy Bears, Play Doh, and Lily, who loves playing with her Play Doh and her "tools" as she says, making "poop" and then putting in a cage as Grandma taught her when Grandma makes kitties, they go in the cage . . . bad Grandma!!!!
Recipe:
September 10th is Sewing Machine Day!!!! One of my first loves, other than my daughter and my grandchildren is sewing!!! I had supported my daughter and I when I had left her dad in 1983 where I did alterations, weddings, upholstery, and draperies not to mention all of Jenny's clothes!!! When Jenny decided she was too old for homemade clothing and after my other daughter passed, I started to quilt. I have taught sewing, machine embroidery, and quilting. When I broke my arm and wrist, I took to paper-piecing as it has a lot of the same qualities of quilting - cutting big pieces into little pieces combining into one project!!!! (at least, that's what my 2nd husband used to tell me!!! LOL!!!)

- card was cut 6 x 12 inches using DCWV Craft and folded in half
- background was scraps
- lace edging was made using Martha Stewart's Eyelet Border Punch
- bingo card from Tsunami Rose printables
- sewing machine cut using Cricut Heritage Cartridge
- buttons and ribbon from button stash
- all edges with chalked around the edges
- sewing machine charm from Miriam's Crafting Supplies
- sentiment, "Sewing mends the soul", from Create with TLC
My final occasion I chose is September 21st, Oktoberfest. I'm German with my grandfather having had worked for Duquesne Brewery until he retired. Holidays and Occasions always included beer!!! I love German restaurants along with the German food I grew up on - sew, why wouldn't I chose something with my heritage????!!!!!
Recipe:
- card was made using Make the Cut with a beer mug which I made into a layered card measuring 4.5 x 6-inches when folded in half
- layers were cut using Recollections card stock
- frothy foam was cut twice to dimension and then using Cuttlebug for dimension
- all edges with chalked around the edges
- sentiment, "Celebrate!!! it's your birthday", from Create with TLC.
