Butterfly Card

Are you sensing a theme here with my past posting and now this one --- perhaps butterflies? Well, I had previously purchased from My Scrap Chicks at http://www.myscrapchick.com/bagscards/shapecards.htm Shape Cards 2 which has a beautiful butterfly shape card along with Apple, Cloud with Sun, Shirt, Mixing Bowl, Candy Cane, Mitten, Cookie Tree, Pinafore, and Bell.

This was cut at 5-1/2 inches using DCWV's Lady Couture Stack which has a fabulous leopard print which I thought was just perfect for a butterfly. I used my scap basket for the black antennae with just a little bling bling with rhinestones. The black dots on the leopard print was accented with Glossy Accents by Inkssentials. Mental note to self when hands are not functioning at peak performance I must not be using stamp pad. With that being said, I covered my blunder with more of my black scrap paper and at that point wrote the verse I had wanted to stamp by Ralph Waldo Emerson with my white pen. The quote I thought was perfect not only for the card, but also for the person I had in mind to give this card to - "A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature".

Hope you enjoy my card including my blunder - need someone with a steady hand to do stamping...darn fibromyalgia!

God Bless You with hugs and love,
Lynne

Flippy Floppy's

Don't you just love this adorable flip flop. I found this a little too late and with not feeling well, there was a challenge with the pattern being provided at http://paperdollsblog.typepad.com/main/2011/06/challenge-week-4-wearin-my-flippy-floppys.html and with being too late, I didn't qualify. Oh well, I still love playing with this and looking at my flippy floppy how hard is it to believe that this was made with paper!!

I was just sew inspired because I love my flip flops and then to make it into a little box what couldn't be cuter to give as a gift with a little treasure inside!!!

I used the StampingCricut Cartridge for my little butterfly with a shadow with adding a little bling bling with the rhinestones and wire for the antennae and some upholstry braid for style! I named my little flippy floppy "SOAR" with my butterfly as butterflies are free and one could only wish to soar and be free! With my OCD, I just had to line both my box lid and box bottom along with my sides. Just couldn't leave it white!

Hope you enjoy my flippy floppy and stop over at The Paper Doll to see her challenges for some wonderful inspiration!

Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and love! Welcome to my new followers!!!

This is in memory and honor of my dad

Willard (Whitey) C. Geib

May 29, 1926 - January 29, 2011

My dad and I only became close when I was in my 40's. This is when he first told me he loved me and with that it took away all the bad memories of my growing up. Daddy and I grew from that point forward. What a blessing it was to have not only my Father's love but now my Daddy's love. This began after my youngest daughter had passed in October of 1991 and shortly thereafter he had his first stroke that we grew closer. He realized at that point in his life how precious life was here on earth. I can remember when I would be in the hospital, Daddy would come in early in the morning and just sit there and at the end of our visit, he would wiggle my toes and tell me he would see me later. Towards, the end, when we would visit him at the Nursing Facility, there was never a visit that would end without him saying he loved me and he would want to walk (well, ok, he was in his wheelchair, me to the door and then tell me to get home safe! I loved my daddy dearly and will miss him even more. This past Father's Day was a tough day as it was the first Father's Day that I didn't have my daddy!

When Daddy was able, it would be our special time to go out for breakfast early in the morning at Eat'n Park every Father's Day. One of the last outings was when my husband and I took Daddy to the County Airport to see the planes he so dearly loved and flew in. My Daddy, as I am sure yours is also, was a very special man. Who in the beginning of our relationship could be termed a hard-hearted German except when it came to my Mom. I was a very selfish child when it came to his death. We were doing vigil as we knew it was Daddy's time to go home. It was the day of my birthday, and I prayed and asked that God leave Daddy here on earth at least on my birthday and just one more day as I was selfish and wanted one more birthday with my daddy and didn't want him to die on my birhtday! My prayers were answered as he was taken home on January 29, 2011, the day after my birthday.

My Daddy believed in God, loved his country, my Mother, his grandchildren, and me!

This is for you Daddy - God Bless you . . .

***********

I had made this for my Daddy last year. This was before I knew there was such a thing as chipboard! What I had done for the thickness of this word book was re-purpose cereal boxes. The cereal boxes were used as a layer of between the cardstock. This was designed on Make the Cut by trial and error not only with the size of the pages but also the font and placement of the holes. I was quite pleased though with the outcome and Daddy carried it around to show the people in the nursing facility! Pictures of Daddy were used throughout in various stages of his life both with his Dad in his uniform with this frame cut from Stand and Salute Cartridge, myself and of course his grandkids! The other frames were cut from the Heritage cartridge which has beautiful elegant framing. The beer stein with "Here's to Dad" is from SVG Cuts. The little digi stamp "Daddy's Girl" was from Tiddly Inks which was colored and shaded with colored pencils. I have a CD, 1000 Card Quotes from Hot Off the Press (paperpizzaz.com), which was purchased from Pat Catan's which has a lot of beautiful quotes and phrases for cards which was added to the pages. Binder rings are holding the book together with ribbons just for fun! All the papers were from a surprise package which was purchased from Pat Catan's which held a lot of treasures - especially the "Father" paper!!! It was truly a wonderful find! This was a project that I had done with my much earlier experiences with my Cricut but was done from the heart. I still love the outcome and it was made for a great man, my Daddy! I hope you enjoy!

Thanks for stopping by and your next stop will be another great designer, Wendy Swenne's Blog http://wendyscrappings.blogspot.com/

SMILE

Who wouldn't smile when you open this card . . . was in an Alice mode today when Sasha and I made this card of the Cheshire Cat with that big grin of his cut at 4.75 inches using the Cricut Cartridge Disney Classics which was placed with dots on the card base of course cut from my very most favorite cartridge - A Child's Year cut at 6-inches. SMILE was cut at 1.50 from the Create a Critter cartridge. A wonderful trick I learned from Canadian Nickel -- she used aluminum foil on a Halloween card that she put through her Cuttlebug. I love the look and used Swirley on the foil and put the Smile on top!! Thanks Nicole for the idea!
Of course, I had Sasha's help again today and she was a big help! We put the ribbon along with the smaller parts through the Xyron which makes life sew much easier to attach! Added a bow and a little bit of glitz with the rhinestones and SMILE!

Now, the big question is -- who would like a card like this to open

and

would you SMILE?

Hugs and love,
Lynne

Summer Fun

Sasha and I had a craft day on Monday! Sasha is 6 years old and wanted to play with the Cricut and this worked out wonderful as we made my project for my blog but just didn't get it listed until today!!! We used my Cricut E2 with Sasha using the stylus and selecting the items we wanted and then she clicked on the knife button to cut!
I feel like I'm Sophia from Golden Girls - now, just visualize this in a frame. I want to go to Michael's or Pat Catan's and purchase one of those wooden frames that you can decorate to place this picture and decorate the frame by painting it brown and using the sun stamp with aqua ink and played with it to see how it looked on my scrap paper as seen below along with some seashells! The stamp is one of those that JoAnn Fabrics sells for a dollar but this was a deal as it was reduced to 50 cents and then 50 percent off the clearance section!!!! A stamp that was only a quarter! The stamp is Studio 112 which is a clear mini stamp.

Now for the recipe for my project which reminds me of a postcard with all that's missing is wish you were here --- I used my very most favorite cartridge - A Child's Year. I love the silhouttes of the children doing different things. From this I used the umbrella and children having fun at the beach and cut using a brown paper by Foundations. The words "fun" and "play" are also on A Child's Year. All were cut at 2 inches. My background paper 8-1/2 x 11-inches is Botanico Dragonflies Designer Paper by chatterbox inc. I found in my scrap box the orange tie dye paper that Sasha and I used the Cuttlebug using the embossing folder Snow Flowers to add dimension to the orange paper. For the word "summer" (Cricut American Alphabet) and the adorable "Cricut holding a cool drink with a straw and those kewl shades" (Cricut Decals) was done with the built-ins on the E2 machine!
This was fun to make and can't wait to finish this project with my visualization and hang on the wall with a summer quilt and wish I were there! Sasha and I had a great time making this and hope you enjoy!

Lynne

Happy 70th Birthday Bill

Today is my cousin Bill's 70th Birthday! What kind of card can you possibly make for someone that is 70?? After looking through my cartridges, this is what I came up with - hope you enjoy!

The recipe for this card is the card was cut at 6-inches using A Child's Year cartridge using Mainstreet Stack by DCWV. The ribbon across the front was purchased from JoAnn Fabrics Memories Ki and has an adhesive back which makes life easy! The little buckle was cut at 1-inch using Fabulous Finds using scrap paper. I have had this one cartridge and had a fear of gluing the lettering but since my Xyron and I are now best friends, I got brave. The lettering is using my Teardrop cartridge and to my surprise, this cartridge even has the Happy and Birthday with a balloon attached!!! All the lettering was cut at 2-inches and my wonderful Xyron made attaching sew much easier! The classic car was cut from Heritage at 1-1/2 inches with adding 2 buttons for the wheels which were hot-glued on and a little pearl for the door handle. I shaded the car and the ballons a bit with a green colored pencil with adding just a dot of white to the balloons. The balloons were traced on the same paper as the car since there was no cut for a color on the balloons. The balloons were then attached using dots for dimension!
I hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!

Just a Note

I had participated in a Tag Swap with Little Scraps of Heaven with using a paper-piecing from Little Scraps of Heaven. I used the Harmony Bear on a tag cut from Christmas Cheer cut at 4-inches. The Christmas Cheer Cartridge has a fantastic selection of tags from which to choose. The cardstock that was used was from Crafty Room with the paper from Pat Catan's surprise package with discontinued cardstock and paper. To complete this tag, I added musical ribbon which was a find at JoAnn Fabrics, a heart button with floss and rhinestones on the musical note for some bling. Little Scraps of Heaven has some fantastic paper-piecing patterns and sets which are phenominal for many uses! Hope you enjoy!

Pay it Forward

"Pay it Forward" is the idea of blessing someone with a random act of kindness without expecting anything in return. It's passing on a kindness, hoping that your recipents will do the same, and forming a never-ending chain of goodwill. But it isn't only kindness, it is also a means to connect and share instead of just keeping it to ourselves.

"I promise to send an original creation to the first 5 people who leave a comment here. They must, in turn, post this on their blog, and send something they make to the first 5 people who comment on their status."

Here's what you need to do:
1. Leave a comment on this post. I will send a handmade gift to the first 5 commentors.
2. Create a post on your blog offering the same.
3. Send a handmade item to your first 5 commentors.
4. It must be sent to your 5 people sometime in 2011.

Please do not sign up unless you are fully committed to making your 5 items.

Gavin's 6th Birthday Cake and Card

Today is Gavin's 6th birthday which meant a homemade cake along with a card just for him! I used to make and decorate cakes but it has gotten more and more difficult with my hands not cooperating at times! My recipe for my cake is quite simple - a Duncan Hines cake mix with a few changes - applesauce is used instead of oil and additionally 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract which gives it a homemade taste. As to my icing recipe it is from scratch: 1 cup of butter, 1 cup of Crisco shortening, 2 cups of granulated sugar, 2 teaspoon vanilla, 1 egg white, 2/3 cup milk. Cream butter and shortening, gradually adding sugar and vanilla and egg white. Keep beating for approximately 2 minutes and then gradually add the milk. Beat on high speed until there is no granular taste. This frosting is very similar to a whipped cream and tastes wonderful!!!!

Now on to the card - I used A Child's Year to cut my card at 7.25 inches. The cardstock was a great find at Michael's with the best part it was $.29 per sheet - I got several as I loved the paper, it was 2-sided and is great for kids' birthday cards with not only the balloons but the bright orange numbers on the other side! The Robot is cut at 4.75 inches from Robotz along with Gavin's name cut at 2.75 inches and the number "6" cut at 4.25 inches. The font is an adorable font on Robotz with also a shadow to add more dimension as I had done with the number "6". These were all cut with paper and cardstock from my scrap box which I always keep at my side when cutting out any project! You never know what treasures you may find. With Gavin's name, it was cut from white cardstock but I got creative and added the dots to coordinate with the card background cardstock with markers. Create a Critter has a great "Happy Birthday" along with a shadow which was cut at 2.75 inches again from my scrap box.

I know Gavin and his family loved the cake and the card and I hope you like it too!

Hugs and Love,

Lynne

Woo Hoo!!!!! I'm a Guest Designer!!!

Woo Hoo!!!!!!! WOW!!! I made it to the big time! I'm thrilled, amazed and honored -- thank you Kari for the opportunity to do my very first Guest Designer stint on your blog, PurpleFuntastick Creations (http://purplefuntastickcreations.blogspot.com/). Kari is a great friend of mine and while she is on the mend I was asked to be a Guest Designer to fill in for Friday but I was just too excited to wait! Also, please check out and follow Kari as she is a funtastic creator and designer!!!

This project is an "Exploding Box" which was made for my step-son Jerry Jr. and his lovely bride with help for Ashliana and Kasha, Julie's two (2) daughters, for their wedding in February of this year. An exploding box actually opens to what you see when the lid is removed with possible additional layers which would make a great photo album or as I had done to hold gift cards. I love making these boxes as I have made them for Thanksgiving and Christmas also! We used Make the Cut as there is a project there for Exploding Boxes which was cut at extra large. We also cut additional squares for stability for the inside at 4 x 4 inches. The cuts are from Tie the Knot and Wedding. I used Make the Cut again for the lettering for Julie and Jerry and just love combining the "J" for both names into one! The paper is La Creme Stack and the beautiful turquoise was from Suits Me to a T which actually does suit me to a "T" as it has some wonderful graphics of butterflies and funky designs! If you would like to have the pattern for the exploding box, I am more than happy to share. The box is actually a full 12 x 12 piece of paper with marking every four inches on all sides.

Thanks again Kari for this opportunity -- prayers, gentle hugs, and good wishes to a full and speedy recovery!

Daughter's Baby Shower Invitation

This is from my daughter's baby shower that I had in January but this is something that I love and am very very proud of! My Scrap Chick has some wonderful svg files which cut beautifully with Make the Cut on my Cricut Expression. The pinafore was cut at 7 inches with a cardstock looks almost like dotted swiss. I incorporated a little bow at the neckline. New Arrival cartridge has a cute little hanger which got a rectangle attached. I printed the information on pastel vellum which was found in a discount bin at JoAnn Fabrics! The invitations were a hit!

Hugs and love,

Ember's 2nd Birthday Card

We went to Ember's, a 2 year old's, birthday party on Friday and wanted to incorporate several of my cartridges because I couldn't decide upon just one. Abby Gadaby is from Sesame Street Friends (the fairy in training) was cut at 6.25 with added bling of rhinestones for her wand. The card was cut with A Child's Year cartridge (of course one of my fav's!) using Sweet Treats paper.

Check out Abby's birthday crown which is cut from Once Upon a Princess -- these crowns are great as they have numbers which are cut inside. Of course, I used the number "2" for Ember's 2nd birthday with the added bling of rhinestones to decorate the tips of the crown! These are perfect colors for a little 2 year old princess of pink and purple!

The inside of the card I used Once Upon a Princess as it has an adorable phrase of Magical which was cut at 2.50, George cartridge has a great Birthday Blessings phrase also cut at 2.50 and ember cut using the Alphabet which is built into the E2.

I absolutely love my Xyron with the phrases and letters for the card with less mess plus while I'm cutting I insert the little pieces and this way when I am finished cutting, I have all my little pieces in one place glued and ready to go to finish!

Hugs and love,

Lynne
